Marriage
God created man and woman out of love and commanded them to imitate his love in their relations with each other. Man and woman were created for each other…Woman and man are equal in human dignity, and in marriage both are united in an unbreakable bond. (United States Catholic Catechism for Adults, Ch. 21, p. 279)
The sacrament of marriage celebrates the covenant of self-giving love between man and woman, and reflects the mystery of unity and love between Christ and his Church. St. Martha offers the following to insure that couples receive proper instruction and the support of the parish community as they prepare for life together: The couple first meets with a priest or deacon before a date can be scheduled. (One of the engaged should be a registered member of the parish for at least six months.) Each couple must attend their choice of marriage preparation course sponsored by the Diocese. The couple will meet with the parish priest or deacon to plan the liturgy and discuss the Sacrament of Marriage. The Catholic Church takes preparation for the Sacrament of Matrimony very seriously. Generally at least 6 months should be allowed for this preparation. Engaged couples should call the pastor to schedule an appointment to discuss their plans.
